The Garden of Moon Reflections
The Garden of Moon Reflections is a serene, compact retreat that blends Asian design philosophy with Scandinavian garden traditions. It offers a series of layered spaces that reveal multiple viewpoints, inviting you to explore calm within movement.
Designed for the new Millhouse by Gert and Karin Wingårdh on a private estate in Scania, the garden complements a retreat that merges Japanese simplicity with local tradition. Despite its intimate scale, it connects with the vast surrounding landscape, offering stunning views of the Kullaberg cliffs meeting the ocean.
At its heart lies a reflective pond featuring a half-moon water step, which mirrors the sky, trees, and distant mountain silhouettes. Comprising 25 distinct viewpoints—each framing the landscape like a work of art—the design emphasizes water as a key element. Flowing gracefully from a spring into the pond and onward into a secret garden, the water’s movement is inspired by the phases of the moon. Two different pathways around the pond provide unique experiences, inviting a meditative encounter with the space.
More than just a physical design, the garden weaves together philosophical, numerological, and poetic elements, coming alive only when you are touched by the real moon reflected in the water.
