Villa Midgård seamlessly integrates architecture with the natural topography through innovative landscape interventions. Cut-outs in the sloping mountain landscape are designed using line-cutting techniques, creating platforms for outdoor seating that engage with the surrounding environment. In the southeast, near the SPA, one of these cut-outs distinctly separates the carefully curated garden from the unruly, wild garden beyond. The second floor is suspended above the entrance, casting shade over the courtyard and enhancing the spatial experience within the landscape. Prominently featured at the heart of the outdoor space, the dark concrete infinity pool mirrors the stillness of a deep forest lake, its waters spilling over the edge to evoke the essence of a natural wilderness. The souterrain’s facade, constructed from slate, and the limestone staircase from the carport, ground the building into its rugged mountain environment. The lush, grass-covered roof of the tallest volume and the roof terrace adorned with spruce trees further reinforce the sense of connecting built form with the surrounding nature. Villa Midgård exemplifies a landscape-focused design that thoughtfully blurs the lines between architecture and the wilderness it inhabits.
