A Recycled Park Reimagined Through Community Dialogue

Completed in 2014, this recycled park along the river between Kyrkbron and Rådhusparken in Umeå stands as a testament to sustainable urban design driven by community dialogue. Local residents helped shape a lush, urban space that features dynamic walkways, inviting public squares, and thoughtfully designed play areas.

A key element of the project was the discovery of a torn quay structure, which we repurposed for all stonework in the park. This innovative reuse not only grounds the design in its riverside context but also underscores our commitment to recycling and resourcefulness.

By transforming an oversized street into a tree-lined, accessible urban corridor and reconfiguring the terrain into distinct levels with panoramic views, the park has become a green haven that enhances urban life while honoring its historical and environmental roots
